pen-y-ghent & the pennine way footpath

Old wooden stiles on the Pennine Way footpath and Pen-y-ghent, one of the trio of hills that make up the Yorkshire Dales 'Three Peaks'. I remember nearly packing up and going home before taking this shot. Late summer I think, but it was quite cold for the time of year, and the weather looked as though it was changing for the worse. I'd not eaten for a while, and stayed longer than I'd planned to for very little in the way of decent images. Heavy black clouds were rolling in from the north east, whereas over to the south east it was a completely different day, with bright sunlight and thin broken cloud. Fantastic conditions for the Dales! This area at the foot of Pen-y-ghent was caught right in the middle of the two weather systems, and at one point it started to hail quite heavily. As luck would have it the hailstorm cleared, leaving some quite nice light in the hour leading up to sunset. I left soon after, hungry, but glad I'd stuck around.
