Wales anglesy and snowdonia photography workshop
North Wales is a region full of unparalleled natural beauty, boasting a diverse range of landscapes that includes rugged mountains, serene lakes, enchanting woodland, and a stunning coastline. This extraordinary scenery makes it one of the most captivating areas we can photograph, in the whole of the UK. From the sweeping vistas of Snowdonia National Park to the dramatic cliffs of the Llyn Peninsula, North Wales offers an impressive array of landscapes, which fully capture the essence of wild, unspoiled nature.
Coastal Regions
The Llyn Peninsula: The Llyn Peninsula, with its dramatic cliffs and hidden coves, offers countless opportunities for outstanding landscape photography. The vibrant coastal path meanders through quaint villages such as Abersoch and Criccieth, where photographers can capture scenes of traditional fishing boats moored in the harbour, as well as dramatic seascapes. The peninsula’s stunning beaches, such as Porthor (Whistling Sands) and Abersoch, are also renowned for their scenic beauty. One of the highlights of this area that we will look to take advantage of, are a set of jagged sea stacks on the northern side of the peninsula, and these make a brilliant location to photograph at sunset.
Anglesey, the largest island in Wales, is a stunning destination that captivates visitors with its remarkable scenery, diverse landscapes, and rich maritime history. The island's coastal path, which stretches for about 125 miles, offers breathtaking views of the coastline, where dramatic cliffs meet the powerful waves of the Irish Sea. One of the most iconic features of Anglesey's coastline is its picturesque lighthouses, each with its own unique charm and historical significance. South Stack Lighthouse, perched dramatically on a cliff at the northern tip of the island, is perhaps the most famous of these, but both Twr Mawr Lighthouse (Llanddwyn Island) and Trwyn Du (Penmon lighthouse) are equally as impressive. All of which we will look to photograph during our stay here.
Countryside Regions
Moving away from the coast, the countryside of North Wales unfolds into a tapestry of rolling hills, mountain valleys, and picturesque farmland.
Snowdonia National Park: Dominating the landscape is Snowdonia National Park, providing a wealth of opportunities for landscape photography with its commanding peaks, including the highest mountain in Wales, Mount Snowdon. This rugged terrain, combined with breathtaking, crystal clear lakes such as Llyn Padarn and Llyn Gwynant, create a dramatic contrast and endless options for landscape photography. The park's varied weather conditions can change rapidly, providing unique lighting and atmospheric effects that can bring instant mood and atmosphere to our photographs. Mist-shrouded mountains, stormy skies, and the glistening reflections on glass-calm water, all contribute to the ethereal quality of this region.
Over the course of four days and four nights we’ll explore all the very best locations, both coastal and countryside, that North Wales has to offer. I will always be on hand to offer guidance around camera technique (if required) and also composition. As always, we aim to choose exact locations on the day, and around the prevailing light and conditions rather than setting a rigid itinerary. But as a possible example, we will aim to photograph a mix of locations that might include; Waterfalls, lakes, mountains, sea Stacks, lighthouses, ruined buildings/castles, trees/woodland, slate mines. Most walking on the workshop is very easy, and we tend to stay at a low level rather than climbing any mountains, however, there are one or two hills to navigate during the week. These will be at your own pace, and they are not particularly long walks (twenty to forty minutes). Depending on the weather during our week, we’ll aim to photograph either the sunrise (Early start/earlier finish) or the sunset (later start time/later finish). This will ultimately depend on the conditions we experience.
The workshop will be based near Bangor, which is very central to all the locations we’ll visit and four nights, single occupancy, self catering accommodation is included. Please enquire if you would like to join as a couple.
