Provence Lavender Fields Photography Workshop

Provence Lavender Fields Photography Workshop

If you have never visited, then I can guarantee you will immediately fall in love with Provence in southern France. Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is a region of south western France, made up of six different, smaller regions, or departments. With an area covering just over 12,000 square miles, and including the coastal ports of Marseille and Nice within its boundaries, Provence is a region that is rich in both culture and history. Provence is probably most famous for it’s delicious food and wine. Apart from that though, it’s simply an amazing place to photograph, and a week is not nearly long enough!

From mid June to mid July, the Lavender fields of the Valensole Plateau will be at their very peak. The Sunflower fields may also be starting to come into flower. The vibrant colours, and the contrasting views of the mountains to the north, simply have to be seen to be believed! However, as stunningly beautiful as those views are, there is so much more for us to explore during our six days and seven nights here. Historic architecture, hilltop villages, mountain landscapes and rivers, ancient geological features and even the odd wildlife encounter will all feature in our itinerary at some point. Here are just a few of the locations we’ll possibly visit during our jam packed week.

  • Valensole
  • Sisteron
  • Colorado Provencal
  • Gorge Du Verdon
  • Avignon
  • Arles
  • Rousillon
  • Gordes
  • Sault

At this time of year, the weather is hot and temperatures through the middle of the day can reach into the thirties. To increase our chances of making successful images, we’ll aim to be active around the first and last few hours, and we can relax throughout the middle of the day. Because we are up very early most days, the likelihood is that we’ll set aside a couple of days for slightly later starts, and we can use some of this time for sightseeing, sampling the local food/wine, shopping etc.

We’ll be based very centrally to all the locations we are likely to visit during the week (within a short drive of Manosque), in a very spacious and luxurious private villa. The villa has it's own pool and all rooms are single occupancy, unless you would like to bring a partner along. Please enquire regarding non photographers/partners.
