Nidderdale Heather Moorland photography Workshop

Nidderdale Heather Moorland photography Workshop

Although not designated as part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the landscape of Nidderdale certainly shares many similar characteristics. The river Nidd gently flows through the rolling green meadows of the Nidd valley before reaching the picturesque market town of Pateley Bridge. In the valley bottom, there are dry stone walls and field barns just like the ones found in the nearby Yorkshire Dales. In August and early September, the higher flanks and edges of the Nidd Valley are taken over by a vibrant riot of late summer colour as the Heather reaches its' annual peak. Dotted all around the Heather moorland are a selection of ancient, strangely named Gritstone rock formations, and these weathered old stones often provide the perfect subject to complement the softer background views down into the valley. We will aim to photograph a selection of locations all around Nidderdale, and although the Heather is certainly the highligh at this time of year, we'll photograph other subjects also. We won't work to a rigid plan as this often doesn't work very well. Instead, locations will be chosen to  match the prevailing weather, light and conditions on the day.

The Nidderdale workshop will begin with us meeting at Pateley Bridge. We'll then make our way around at least three or four different locations throughout the day, with a break for food around the midway point. This also provides the ideal opportunity to review the mornings images as well as going through some basic post processing steps in Lightroom and Photoshop if time permits. Group size is restricted to no more than five photographers to allow for plenty of individual tuition time. The day lasts around ten hours and will include a sunrise or sunset depending on conditions on the actual day. All tuition is tailored to individual requirment making the workshop ideal for all levels including complete beginners and upwards.
