Ireland The Wild Atlantic Way Photography Workshop

Ireland The Wild Atlantic Way Photography Workshop

The Wild Atlantic Way, on the west coast of Ireland, stretching from County Donegal’s Inishowen Peninsula in Ulster, to Kinsale, County Cork passes through nine counties and three different provinces on its 2,500km route. The trail winds its way through some of the most breathtakingly beautiful and dramatic coastal scenery to be found anywhere in the British Isles. It’s no wonder then that Donegal was recently given the title of ‘Coolest Place on the Planet’ by National Geographic Traveller magazine, and with many areas still to be fully discovered by the photography masses, this is definitely one opportunity not to be missed.

Over six days and seven nights we will explore the northern headlands leg of the route, up on the north western tip of Ireland with visits to locations both coastal and inland. There’s a real depth and diversity of subjects, and that’s just starting with the coastal locations! We will be looking to photograph wonderfully photogenic lighthouses, ruined castles, spectacular cliffs, coves and sea stacks, a couple of amazing sea arches as well as perfectly pristine, unspoilt beaches that would rival any to be found further afield. I don’t mind admitting that on first encountering them, one or two of the coastal areas, and especially the layered cliffs, dramatic coves and sea stacks literally made my jaw drop open! If you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, many of the coastal scenes were filmed here and it’s easy to see why in particular, these areas were chosen.

Moving inland we’ll aim to capture the splendour of Mount Errigal and the Glenveigh national park. We’ll also look to photograph one or two beautiful loughs, ruined churches and abbeys, one or more mountains, and if we can squeeze it in to what will be a jam packed programme, possibly even the odd night session at one of the many ancient Dolmens (Burial sites,) or a spot of light painting at one of the coastal arches.

With such a vast array of subjects and locations, you’re sure to be challenged both technically and compositionally. I have over 20 years photography experience (10 years now running workshops) so you can be assured that you are in the very best hands and I will be on hand to guide you through all the photography/camera and post processing related techniques you’re likely to need to extract the very best possible images from this amazing area.

We will base ourselves in Kerrykeel which is close to Letterkenny. Our self catering accommodation is centrally located to all the areas we will visit over the course of the week and all rooms are single occupancy (please enquire if you require double occupancy). All transport and transfers from and to Dublin airport are also included in the cost.
